The 5 Minute Life Coach - New Habit Anyone?
October 15, 2007
Hello,

A big welcome to my new subscribers, all 50 of you. This newsletter now goes out to 388 people and that figure grows every day. Thank you for letting your friends know about Christian Life Coaching.

I hope this issue will inspire you and give you keys to help you on your journey.

As you know, I joined the 100 day challenge and set myself 10 inspiring goals for the remainder of the year. I'm making good progress with everything I set out to do. I've got my goals written out in detail and have them posted where I can see them.

Being reminded of where I'm headed is helping me to stay focused. Taking small step towards achieving my goals each day is helping me to gain momentum and setting me up to succeed. I'm taking time to celebrate successes and I'm thrilled with the progress I've made.

It's not too late for you to set yourself some inspiring goals. Now is a great time to take your dreams off the shelf, dust them down and breathe life into them.

If you haven't yet worked through Be Your Own Life Coach Now I encourage you to set time aside this week to read it and follow the exercises.

I can promise you that if you change even one small thing you will see a difference. Imagine what would happen if you changed just one small thing each day, or created one new habit each month...

In this week's issue, you'll find an article on creating new supportive daily habits.

May you be blessed with an increasing awareness of God's presence,

Lynne

"A habit is something you can do without thinking - which is why most of us have so many of them." Frank A. Clark

"The chains of habit are generally too small to be felt until they are too strong to be broken." Samuel Johnson

"A well-beaten path does not always make the right road" source unknown

Anyone For A New Habit?

Everyone has habits, good ones and bad ones. Habits are those things you do without thinking. If you've ever arrived home without remembering much about how you got there, that's habit at work. When you drive the same route every day you start doing it without even thinking about what you're doing.

Two of the most effective things you can do to create a new healthy habit is to

  • become more conscious of what you're doing
  • start exercising self-control in specific areas of your life.

Self-control is like a muscle which can be trained to get stronger over time. Breaking a bad habit is simply a matter of exercising control over your thoughts, feelings and actions.

The good news is that it only takes 3 weeks to create new, supportive habits. There are studies to prove it. If you persist with commitment and self-discipline for just 21 days you can break a habit and create a new one. Success is more certain when you develop a routine, build structure into your life and establish a pattern.

What can you start doing today to exercise your self-control muscle and build new supportive habits?

Where can you create more structure in your life?

It could be something as simple as

  • Taking a packed lunch so you won't snack on unhealthy foods or spend unnecessary money.
  • Walking part of the way to work each day
  • Tidying everything away at the end of the day so you can have a clear start the next day
  • Saving 10% of your income each month
  • Checking your email only 3 times day
  • Limiting yourself to just 2 alcoholic drinks
  • Getting out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off
  • Waking up 15 minutes earlier so that you have time to spend with God at the beginning of the day
  • Asking God what He thinks before you make a decision

The more you become aware of what you're doing and start exercising self-control, the easier it is to change. Once you start using your self-control muscle it will quickly get stronger and support you in your efforts to create new healthy habits. The secret is to be intentional about everything you do.

I invite you take time right now to decide which new habit you will establish. Once you've decided what you want to change and you know why you want to change it

  • create an action plan that will help you to put new supportive habits firmly in place
  • find someone to be accountable to.

Remember it only takes 21 days to establish a new supportive habit. What are you waiting for? Start transforming your life today.

"Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going." Jim Rhon
"Habits are safer than rules; you don't have to watch them. And you don't have to keep them, either. They keep you." Frank Crane

"I am your constant companion,
I am your greatest helper or your heaviest burden.
I will push you onward or drag you down to failure.
I am at your command.
Half of the tasks you do you might just as well turn over to me,
And I will do them quickly and correctly.

I am easily managed, you must simply be firm with me,
Show me exactly how you want something done;
After a few lessons I will do it automatically.
I am the servant of all great people and alas of all failures as well.

Those who are great I have made great,
Those who are failures I have made failures.
I am not a machine, but I work with all of the precision of a machine, Plus the intelligence of a person.

Now, you may run me for profit or you may run me
For ruin. It makes no difference to me.
And I will lay the world at your feet.
Be easy with me and I will destroy you.

WHO AM I?............. I AM CALLED HABIT."
