Are 'RATs' Killing Your Potential?

RAT's (Really Awful Thoughts) are what most people think about during the day. Those negative thoughts are sneaky and they will keep you from achieving your full potential.

"Really awful thoughts take you down a path you don’t want to go. Yet for most of us, heading down the wrong path doesn't happen dramatically. It happens subtly and as a result, we don’t do anything about it,"

says Tommy Newberry, Author of "The 4:8 Principle", Life Coach, and Founder of The 1% Club. Tommy offers a simple approach to recognizing RATs and learning how to starve them and make them go away.

Thankfully, getting rid of the RATs is made easier by using the 4:8 principle. Choose to think on what is lovely, pure, gracious, and worthy of being called excellent to judge what is best for you to think and say.

Here are 5 Tips for recognizing and getting rid of some RATs in your life

  1. Don't be an 'Amplifier' who inflates unpleasant situations by using extreme words like always, never, no one, every time. When we use those extreme words, it fuels negative emotions.

  2. Don't be a 'Feeler' who accepts negative feelings as though they're fact. Sometimes you feel rotten because you just got some bad news, but sometimes you feel rotten for no good reason...you can choose to feel good.

  3. Don't be a 'Guesser' who pretends to know that other people are thinking bad things about you. You're almost always guessing wrong.

  4. Don't be an 'Exaggerator' who when something happens says, 'I'm devastated' or worse still, someone who worries about what might happen by forecasting a big misfortune.

  5. Don't be an 'Identifier' who over personalizes situations. Everything is always about you. If someone is careless and forgets to call you back, or cuts you off in traffic - then they were intentionally trying to ruin your day.

Once you've learned how to identify these thieves of joy and peace, you'll be ready to starve and eliminate them. RAT's rob you, and you'll be better much better off getting rid of them.

You can chase out the RATs with positive, upbuilding 4:8 thoughts. When you do you'll expand your potential in all areas of life and be able to really enjoy every bit of success you.

Life is too precious to waste time wallowing in miserable thoughts. You can proactively choose to focus on the good things. Keep a positive list of these handy so that you can recite them instead of counting to ten the next time your temper rises.
