Do You Know Where You're Headed?

Where will you be in 2010? What will you be doing?

I hope you're thinking of the possibilities.

Where were you in 2003? What were you doing?

Stop and think about what's changed in your life since then.

My life has changed significantly. In 2003 I helped my husband to set up and run a gift shop. Since then I've qualified as a coach, set up my own business, realised my dream of becoming a writer, launched two blogs and developed my coaching website.

Now think about what you could do in the next three or four years if you put your mind to it.

What would you like to be doing in 2010? What have you always wanted to do?

You can either make up your mind to take action now, realise your dreams and enjoy the rewards, or, you can still be putting things off three years from now because it will take too much effort and you’re not sure what to do next.

It's time to decide what you really want, set your intentions and create a plan to make it happen.

Identify Your Goals

What Do You Really Want To Do?

This is a simple, yet powerful exercise that will help you to become clear about what you really want and find the steps to take you there.

Work through all the steps and take time to stop and consider your answers to each question.

  • Take your time
  • Record your thoughts
  • Resist the temptation to rush through the process

What three things would you love to accomplish in the next three years?

What would you do if you knew you could do anything?

Tune in to the longings of your heart, reach for some big things and allow yourself to stretch beyond your comfort zone.

Now, think of the possibility of making these things a reality.

What limiting thoughts, feelings or beliefs do you have about each of these goals?

Write them down. Simply being aware of them and writing them down will help to defuse their power.

What steps will you take to overcome them?

If you don't accomplish these goals, what will it mean for you?

What are the implications of leaving things as they are?

Are you happy to settle for that or are you ready to take steps to make your dream a reality?

What do you need to do to move forward?

Make a list, don't leave anything out, and include the small things too.

Go through your list and prioritise the steps you need to take.

  • Decide exactly what you will do and when you will do it.
  • Put the steps in your diary and check regularly to ensure that you're on course.
  • Schedule time to evaluate your progress and make any necessary adjustments.
  • Ask for help if you need it and find someone you can trust to encourage you and spur you on.

Once you're made your plan enlist your imagination and picture yourself achieving each of your goals.

  • What does it look like?
  • What does it sound like?
  • What does it smell like?
  • How does it feel?

What do you have that you didn't have before?

Call things that are not as though they were, look with eyes of faith. Allow yourself to dream and know that all things are possible to those who love God.

Now, go and partner with God to make it happen.

"Goals are dreams with deadlines." Diana Scharf Hunt

"Don't be afraid to take a big step if one is indicated; you can't cross a chasm in two small jumps." David Lloyd George

"When people say to me: "How do you do so many things?" I often answer them, without meaning to be cruel: "How do you do so little?" It seems to me that people have vast potential. Most people can do extraordinary things if they have the confidence or take the risks. Yet most people don't. They sit in front of the telly and treat life as if it goes on forever." Philip Adams
